With the heat index on the rise, escaping the heat might be
your main priority this summer. This is going to be a summer of excellent movie
releases and what better way getting out of the heat then by stepping into a
nice cool movie theater and enjoying your favorite refreshments. I have
compiled a list of “must see” summer movies. Let me know what you think! What
movies are you most excited to see this summer?
Monsters
University
Even though this movie came out last weekend, it is still
toping the ticket sales charts- and a note worth mention. Mike Wazowski and
James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case.
From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each
other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame
their differences and became the best of friends.

The Heat
This movie releases today (Friday, June 28, 2013) and it
claims to be a laugh out loud summer hit. Uptight FBI agent Sarah Ashburn is
paired with testy Boston cop Shannon Mullins in order to take down the ruthless
drug lord. The hitch: neither woman has ever had a partner – or a friend for
that matter.

White House Down
Also releasing today, Friday June 28, 2013, this
action-packed thriller is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. From the
director of Independence Day, Godzilla and The Day After Tomorrow, Roland
Emmerich has not let his audience down with this new release. Capitol Policeman,
John Cane, has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting
President James Sawyer. Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news,
he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a
heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling
into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his
daughter, and the country.

The Conjuring
I have to admit, I can’t even watch the trailer without
covering my eyes and screaming- and I can’t wait to watch it! And yes, I am
that girl in the theater that will scream really loud. This movie is coming to
theaters on July 19th and does not skimp out on the fear. Paranormal
investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark
presence in their farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful entity, the Warrens
find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

IMDB Score: 7.6/10
Grown Ups 2
A sequel to Grown Ups, this July
12th release is a hilarious summer comedy. After having the greatest
time of his life three summers ago, Lenny (Adam Sandler), decides he wants to
move his family back to his hometown and have them grow up with his gang of
childhood friends and their kids. But between old bullies, new bullies, schizophrenic
bus drivers, drunk cops on skis, psycho grade school girlfriends and 400
costumed party crashers, he finds out that sometimes crazy follows you.

Despicable Me 2
“Resilient in its daftness,
reliable in its silliness, Despicable Me is on the threshold of franchise
status with this likeable sequel.” A pair of Gru’s bumbling, pidgin-tongued
minions tuck in the kids, attempt whacky hijinks, get scared by a wayward alley
cat, and are abducted by a mysterious force. In the trailer, someone – or
something—snatches Gru’s underlings. Who is this faceless villain, and what
does he/she/it intend to accomplish by kidnapping those closest to Gru? This is
a must see family film releasing on July 3rd.

IMDB Score: 8.1/10
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2:
With this late summer (okay,
officially Fall- but I just had to mention this one!) release, this is a
heartwarming follow up to the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. After the
disastrous food storm in the first film, Flint and his friends are forced to
leave the town. Flint accepts the invitation from his idol Chester V to join
The Live Corp Company, which has been tasked to clean the island, and where the
best inventors in the world create technologies for the betterment of mankind.
When Flint discovers that his machine still operates and now creates mutant
food bests like living pickles, hungry tocodiles, shrimpanzees and apple
pie-things, he and his friends must return to save the world.

The Lone Ranger
Starring Johnny Depp and Armie
Hammer, this July 3rd movie release is jammed packed with suspense
and adventure. A masked hero (Armie Hammer) and his Native American companion,
Tonto (Johnny Depp), fight injustice in the Old American West. This time, the
threat comes from industrialist Latham Cole (Tom Wilkinson) – who utilizes the
recent invention of railroad technology to carve a path of malevolence on his
way to money and power.
Turbo
Theo, aka Turbo (Ryan Reynolds),
is a garden snail who dreams of being the greatest race in the world, just like
his hero, 5-time Indianapolis 500 champ, Guy Gagne (Bill Hader). His obsession
with speed and all things fast has made him an oddity and an outsider in the
slow and cautious snail community, and a constant embarrassment to his careful
older brother, Chet (Paul Giamatti). Turbo desperately wishes he could escape
the slow-paced life he’s living. After a freak accident, Turbo’s dream is
finally coming true. He gets sucked into the turbocharger of a drag racer,
fusing his DNA with nitrous oxide and finds himself vested with the power of
incredible speed, accuracy, as well as some of the characteristics of a car.
Turbo embarks on an extraordinary journey and is the ultimate underdog who
achieves the impossible by refusing to let his limitations get in the way of
his dreams.

We’re the Millers (If anyone asks)
This last one is a comedy for the
adults. David Burke (Jason Sudeikis) is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele
includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids- after all, he has his scruples. So
what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious
reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries
to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks.
Stealing his stash and his money, they leave him in major debt to his supplier,
Brad (Ed Hems).
In order to wipe the slate clean – and maintain
a clean bill of health – David must now become a big-time drug smuggler by
brining Brad’s latest shipment in from Mexico. With his neighbors, cynical
stripper Rose (Jennifer Aniston) and wannabe customer Kenny (Will Poulter), and
the tatted-and-pierced streetwise teen Casey (Emma Roberts), he devises a
foolproof plan. One fake wife, two pretend kids and a huge, shiny RV later, the
“Millers” are headed south of the boarder for a Fourth of July weekend that is
sure to end with a bang.
